Is Graphic Design Art? A new poll at the aptly named website IsGraphicDesignArt.com poses this question. In my opinion the obvious and landslide answer would be yes (I'm obviosuly bias), however 5756 votes into the poll and majority votes 'No'! Paul Rand must be turning over in his grave. These is no comment section on the site to discuss so I would like to ask this question on the Crew forum.

I say this with absolute conviction and certainty -- Graphic Design is definitely ART! I can't even understand an argument against this fact. Can a graphic designer not be artistic? Sure. Doesn't mean he/she is any good. The core of any great design is rooted in the same fundamental principles of fine art -- shape, form, composition, expression. I could go on... i just wanted to cast my strong YES vote to this argument!

UPDATE: The statistics have changed, and with 55% of voters saying YES, the majority has shifted. And of course, I am strongly in that camp.
Heck yeah it's art! People who don't think it is probably have a limited view of the world. Art is all around us in many forms. To say that something isn't art, well, that's just silly.
Yeah its art, I voted on the poll, but in everyone else's defense, I started studying graphic design, without really thinking it was art, but after 2 years of full time education, I can deffinatley say it is an art form.
