Fun with Fonts

How's your penmanship? So awesome you wish you had a font of it? Above is a sample of what could be TessScript– with the help of Fontifier, a website that can turn your handwriting sample into an actual font for just 9 bucks. I haven't tried this yet, but I might just give it a go over the weekend. It also could be fun to make a series of your own dingbats! As I was scanning in my banner for this entry, a thought crossed my mind: just where did the phrase "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" originate, anyway?? With a little help from Wikipedia, I soon had my answer! Turns out this sentence designers see so often for typeface display was originally used to test typewriters and other forms of data communication equipment. It is an example of a pangram, a phrase that uses every letter of the alphabet at least once. It's not the shortest, but its definitely one of the more coherent, which helped make it so popular.

Some of my other favorites:
Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs!
The five boxing wizards jump quickly.
Watch "Jeopardy!", Alex Trebek's fun quiz game.
Amazingly few discotheques provide jukeboxes.

Cool site, I used it a couple of years ago. But I feel that when I saw what the Sarah font was, it wasn't as cool as my real handwriting because the letters didn't connect on the computer the way they would in real life.

Sarah, no one thinks your handwriting is cool.

OK, it seems I have put my foot in my mouth. Apparently, the "Sarah" that commented above is not the Sarah (Martin) that I thought it was. So to the mystery Sarah that I insulted, I'm very sorry. I promise it was just a joke. I'm sure your handwriting is really cool.
