Emoticons

Hello, my name is Meghan, and I use emoticons. I know they are obnoxious and when used too often can be a total turn off. Smiles? winks? winks with smiles? Tragic. Regardless, often times the only way to truly convey tone in an email is through a few, simple typographic elements known as emoticons. So unfortunately, those cutesy little faces at the end of sentences are, in fact, necessary. Trust me, I know from experience...you forget to add the "wink", and that sarcastic comment you once thought as witty and entertaining immediately turns mean and thoughtless. So in conclusion, I'm looking beyond the cringe-worthy tiny type faces and applauding them for their typographical roots. I like to think it took a mighty fine graphic designer to figure out that a semi-colon, a hyphen, and a parenthesis could form an emotion. Ok, so it was probably just some computer science nerd. Whatever. Bravo! ;)
