I stumbled across the work of Myoung Ho Lee this morning, and I couldn't help but fall in love with his tree series. Purely aesthetically, I think these photographs are just so serene and beautiful– I feel calmer just looking at them. But they are also conceptually interesting: at first glace, I assumed the process he used was to print a large-scale image of a tree onto a sheet and then erect it. I don't know how you would go about doing that, but I just thought he must know something I don't. Reading on I learned that these are live trees that he deliberately separates from their surrounding environments using a white backdrop. Which definitely does make you reconsider the image. I for one would like to see this in person as environmental art too– can't you imagine walking through a field of these trees?

be cool, tess, i thought they were printed out large scale as well. once you find out they aren't it's like "well...maybe you should have tried harder."
