Ode to Microsoft Word

Do not shield your eyes! What you are seeing are real design templates. For the longest time I have been bemused and horrified by the Microsoft Word template library. From greeting cards and calenders to letterheads and business cards, Microsoft Word has been fighting a daily design battle with decent designers everywhere. Graphic Design 101: We designers learn the basic fundamentals of good design: white space, typography, readability, and simplicity. We craft our resumes into works of art, tweak a logo for hours on end, kern the copy of a flyer no one will read. Why? Because its important to us and people like good design, whether they recognize it or not. I just can not put my finger on why Microsoft, a large corporation with plenty of money to hire a few designers, creates these templates. I offer my services right now, pro bono, to redesign these templates for the common man and woman!

I never thought I'd say this, but I would say a resume with a finger pointing to a globe might actually be worse.
